Support & FAQ
GPS
Why does it say "Searching…" or show few satellites?
GPS signals are weak and barely pass through roofs. Step outside with a clear view of the sky; a first fix usually takes under a minute.
My position is stuck or far off. What can I do?
On the Status tab, tap Refresh GPS data. Your phone forgets its cached satellite data and starts fresh. This helps especially after travelling far or a long time without GPS. Then wait outdoors for a minute.
Does Homing need mobile data or Wi-Fi?
No. Homing reads your phone's GPS chip directly and works fully offline, even in flight mode.
Compass
The compass points the wrong way.
Move your phone in a figure-8 a few times, away from metal, magnets, speakers and cars. Homing shows a reminder when calibration is needed. Phone cases with magnets also disturb the compass.
True north or magnetic north?
True north points to the geographic North Pole and matches maps; Homing uses it by default once it has a GPS position. Magnetic north is what a classic needle compass shows.
Way back and spots
How do I get back to my car or tent?
On Way back, tap Save this spot when you leave. Later, open Way back and follow the arrow. While you walk, the arrow follows your walking direction; when you stop, it uses the compass.
Can I add a place someone sent me?
Yes. Share the location to Homing from WhatsApp, Google Maps or SMS and choose Save spot in Homing, or use Add by coordinates and paste it. Short links like maps.app.goo.gl need the internet, so copy the coordinates from the pin instead.
Homing Pro
Is Pro a subscription?
No. It's a one-time purchase through Google Play.
I got a new phone. Do I have to buy Pro again?
No. Install Homing while signed in to the same Google account and Pro unlocks automatically.
Where can I see my exported trails on a map?
Open the GPX file in gpx.studio (in any browser), OsmAnd, Komoot, Strava or Google Earth.
Your data
How do I delete my data?
Everything is stored only on your phone. Delete spots and trails in the app, or uninstall Homing to remove everything. We hold no data about you. See the privacy policy.
